About Reflective Consultation

Beacon offers services to Michigan educators, including reflective consultation for individual providers and groups of providers who are working with ages Birth to Five in general and special education.

The best listeners help us listen to ourselves.

Reflective consultation is a framework for pausing to allow intentional thinking about your experiences in your work within early childhood education, and what you and others bring to those experiences. When we reflect on something and give our shared attention to it, that is when the deepest and widest learning happens, the kind of learning that leads to meaningful change.

While the world of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) undeniably holds joy, hope, and celebrations of growth and development, it also holds isolation and stress. Reflective consultation responds with opportunities for connection and regulation. The work and systems of IECMH often hold trauma and harm for families, children, and the providers engaging with them. Reflective consultation responds with movement toward repair.

Reflective consultation has long been recognized as a meaningful part of professional development for providers working within ECSE, GSRP, and other IECMH spaces. Beacon’s reflective consultation sessions satisfy requirements for providers who are earning or maintaining various levels of IECMH endorsement. Sessions are typically provided monthly, in person, but schedule and format can be adjusted to meet your needs.
